The Black Business Association of Memphis

is proud to announce the 2015 Benny Awards Luncheon, Friday May 1st from 11:30am until 1:00pm at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis located at 3700 Central Avenue. This year’s luncheon features Keynote Speaker Ms. Susan L. Taylor, Founder & CEO of National CARES Mentoring Movement & Editor Emerita of Essence Magazine.

Under her guidance, Essence Magazine’s readership soared to eight million in the U.S., the Caribbean, Canada, the U.K. and English-speaking African nations, and the Essence brand expanded into book publishing, broadcasting, eyewear, hosiery and its own fashion catalogue.

After 27 years as the chief editor of Essence and the visionary credited with building the brand, Taylor left publishing and in 2005 founded the National CARES Mentoring Movement, focusing her sights on building an organization that is devoted to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty among African Americans.

Among the Benny Award nominees, BBA will also honor Mr. Clifford Stockton, Senior Advisor, Logistics & Public Policy with the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce where he has served for over 44 years.

The Black Business Association (BBA) of Memphis is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, which was founded in 1974. The BBA is supported by the City of Memphis Department of Housing and Community Development.
